Third round win for Brierley Hill in Stourbridge and District Cup

Brierley Hill Pool and Snooker ‘A’ had Ashley Sidaway to thank as they eased their way to victory over Kinver Constitutional ‘A’ in their Stourbridge and District League Cup third round match. Sidaway proved a top performer with his pool cues, producing 50 and 73 breaks on the Kinver pool tables. However, despite Brierley Hill’s pre-match status as overwhelming favourites, the current leaders of the Premier Division did not find it simple to overcome their less-fancied opponents, with Jamie Spence suffering defeat at the hands of his Kinver challenger Arnie Tromans and Callum Downing being seen off by Ron Smith.

Despite strong resistance from the underdogs of Kinver Constitutional ‘A’, Brierley Hill eventually overcame their handicap of 185 points to secure a 47-point victory, with Elliot Bastable and Mario Catalano helping to make sure that there was no shock result. Elsewhere, the match between Premier Division sides Hot Shots of Langley and Netherton Liberals ended with a 53-point win for Netherton – currently stuck at the bottom of the league – as successes for Paul Brown and Richard Barnsley helped them to forget their struggles on the pool tables in the Premier Division, to progress to the next round of the Knock-out Cup.

The result will be a disappointment for Hot Shots, who thrashed Netherton 5-0 in their most recent league clash, as they failed to overturn their pre-match handicap of 135 points, despite straightforward victories for Lee Washbrook and Roy Stokes and Neil Beckley edging out Mitch Mason by 10 points.
